Posting Guidelines for Final Year Audiology Externships

To support students and employers in the placement process, the following criteria must be met when posting a Final Year Audiology Externship.

Posting Eligibility

  • To qualify for the externship posting rate of $75, the position must be submitted directly by the hiring institution. 
  • Postings submitted by third-party advertising agencies or staffing firms do not qualify.
  • The externship posting is valid for 45 days.
  • ASHA reserves the right to reject a job posting if it does not represent a true Final Year Audiology Externship.

Position Details

  • Clearly identify the role as a “Final Year Audiology Externship” (not a full-time staff position).
  • Specify the timeframe (typically 12 months, e.g., September 2026–August 2027). 
  • Clarify whether the position is full-time, including expected weekly hours.
  • Define the primary setting(s) and the clinical expectation (e.g., ENT clinic, private practice, VA hospital, academic medical center, pediatric specialty). Will this involve auditory processing?

Compensation & Benefits

  • Indicate whether the externship is paid or unpaid.
  • If paid, list the stipend amount or hourly wage.
  • Mention additional benefits, if applicable (e.g., PTO, holidays, CEU funds, insurance support, housing assistance).

Application & Seclection Process

  • List application requirements (e.g., résumé/CV, cover letter, unofficial transcripts, letters of recommendation).
  • Provide the application deadline.
  • Specify how applicants should submit materials (e.g., via email, online portal, or centralized match system).

Supervision & Training

  • Identify the supervising audiologist(s), including credentials (CCC-A, state license).
  • Outline the supervision model (direct vs. indirect, progressive independence).
  • Highlight clinical training opportunities (diagnostics, amplification, cochlear implants, vestibular testing, pediatrics/adults, practice management).

Candidate Qualifications

  • Applicants must be current AuD students entering their final year.
  • State expectations for professionalism, communication skills, and commitment to patient-centered care.
