The ASHA Leader Sponsored Content Guidelines

  • Content must be relevant to audiology, speech-language professionals, or students.
  • It should clearly present an application or value to discipline of audiology and speech-language pathology.
  • The content should be lively, entertaining and engaging, while providing practical, easy-to-follow information. Companies are encouraged to focus on issues, research, or other applicable information. It cannot be a marketing brief, product release, or similar solely promotional material.
  • Companies are encouraged to provide relevant research data, sources, and link to ASHA resources/publications when applicable. Any claim must be supported by research citations.
  • All content should be original or the property of the author/company. Per industry standard, if content is republished, it should be noted that the article originally published in The ASHA Leader.
  • The content sponsor is responsible for submitting a proposal and collaborating with ASHA to craft the content. When completing the proposal form, please note this is a sponsored content proposal as a part of your submission.
  • Content will be labeled as Sponsored Content.
  • All content and images are subject to review and editing. ASHA has final approval.

Writing Requirements

  • Use active voice to engage readers.
  • Strive for a conversational tone. Be concise, avoid complex words, technical terms and jargon, and limit the use of acronyms.
  • Provide a short, attention-grabbing title (subject to editorial revision for style consistency).
  • Content must adhere to The ASHA Leader’s guidelines and writing style and (based on the current edition of the "Associated Press Stylebook").
  • Articles should be bylined by company personnel, preferably an audiologist, speech-language pathologist, SLP/A assistant, or related professional.
  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the information presented.

Style & Structure

  • The ASHA Leader/Leader Live Articles: 600–1,500 words (excluding title, byline, author bio, or company summary).
  • Blog Posts: 250–600 words (excluding title, byline, author bio, or company summary).
  • ASHA Voices Podcast Interviews: Provide an overview of the topic and possible interview questions in advance.
  • Research Citations: Use APA style for listing sources at the end of the article.
  • Images: Each article/blog post can have one featured image (not a logo or product image). Images should be at least 72 dpi for web and 300 dpi for print, with captions.
